Whiskers
Whiskers is an enlarged photograph of my upper lip printed onto blackout fabric, its plush, peach-like surface enhanced with horsehair to exaggerate the appearance of facial hair. The work playfully confronts the taboo of ageing women growing unwanted hair, using humour to expose the pressures to conceal or remove the visible signs of ageing. By monumentalising this often-overlooked detail, Whiskers invites viewers to reconsider cultural expectations of beauty and the realities of the ageing female body.
