Random Leaps Converge  2m:43s emerged during the isolation of the COVID-19 lockdown, transforming the familiar environment of the kitchen into a surreal, imagined universe. Everyday ingredients and domestic implements escape their usual roles and chase one another through a speculative space, becoming animated characters within a playful sci-fi landscape.

Using video, photography, painting, iMovie and After Effects, I created a world inspired by childhood television programmes such as The Clangers, Thunderbirds and Star Trek. Sounds recorded from my own kitchen were layered to create an original soundscape, turning the ordinary rhythms of domestic life into an unfamiliar environment.

The work reflects a desire to escape the limitations of the everyday while celebrating the potential of domestic spaces as sites of invention, transformation and imagination. Through humour and play, Random Leaps Converge explores how ordinary objects can become portals into alternative realities.

Water Torture 1m:54s transforms everyday kitchen preparation into an exaggerated performance of repetition and endurance. Through relentless acts of chopping, whipping, beating, slicing and grating, the work explores the boredom, physicality and hidden labour within domestic routines. Using humour and absurdity, it reveals the kitchen as both a site of care and potential violence, questioning the value placed on repetitive acts of maintenance and the labour often left unseen.
