Domestic Impressions
Domestic Impressions is a series of monoprints made using everyday household objects, including kitchen knives, chopping boards, cleaning cloths and other domestic implements. Repurposing these familiar tools as printmaking devices, the works transform the repetitive actions of cleaning, preparing and maintaining the home into abstract visual records.
The series forms part of my ongoing practice exploring domestic labour, feminism, materiality and ageing. By elevating overlooked household objects from functional tools to artistic collaborators, the prints question the invisible and often undervalued work traditionally associated with women. The marks left by these objects become traces of repetitive labour, while their worn surfaces carry the history of use, touch and time. Through humour, observation and material experimentation, Domestic Impressions reveals the extraordinary within the ordinary, inviting viewers to reconsider the home as a site of both creativity and cultural significance.
