Ironing explores the tension between ageing, beauty and agency through the surreal act of ironing my face. Blending humour with discomfort, the work transforms an everyday domestic ritual into a reflection on the pressure to maintain a youthful appearance. The iron becomes a symbol of both care and control, questioning the emotional and physical labour involved in pursuing perfection. Rather than being about vanity, Ironing considers the intimate relationship we have with our ageing bodies and our desire to shape how we are seen.

Ironing In the Wrinkles reverses the promise of the domestic iron. Instead of smoothing the surface, I deliberately and aggressively iron wrinkles into a sheet, transforming an act of care into one of disruption. As the fabric twists into phallic forms that are repeatedly crushed beneath the iron, the work introduces themes of sexuality, power and control. Through humour and repetition, it explores the relationship between domestic labour, the ageing body and the cultural pressures placed on women to conform to ideals of beauty and femininity.
