Door Mat
This work transforms the dial of an iron into a large-scale doormat, reimagining a familiar domestic object as a metaphor for the labour of maintenance. Associated with care, routine and the pursuit of a “smooth” finish, the iron dial reflects the pressures placed on women to manage both their homes and their bodies. Through humour and scale, the work explores domestic labour, bodily maintenance and the cultural expectations surrounding ageing and beauty.
